Integrating Digital Cameras into the Classroom
Monday, August 22, 9:00 am to 11:00am
In this class we will discuss the management issues with the school’s digital cameras, including battery charging, managing pictures on the memory card, downloading pictures, student use, and using multiple cameras. We will spend most of our time discussing and trying ways to integrate images into the curriculum across all subjects. Bring your ideas! And your school laptop, if you have one.
Mail Merging Your Way to Form Documents with Individualized Info
Wednesday, August 24, 9:00 am to 11:00am
Do you find yourself typing the same names and information over and over, or making a single file, printing it, then changing a couple of pieces of information on it and printing again? This is easily managed using Mail Merge. We’ll first create a flexible spreadsheet with your students’ data on it, and then create a variety of documents which act as forms for it. Merge them together, and voila… personalized letters, certificates, appointments, cards, etc.
Using Nettrekker
Wednesday, August 24, 11:30am to 12:30pm
The school purchased a site license to Nettrekker this year, and we’ll be using it to reduce our reliance on Google and other non-filtered search engines. This is a great way to avoid having kids “stumble” onto inappropriate results (which are not filtered with our school’s filter software), or waste time looking at 2,532,871,978 results. I am taking a class on this on Wednesday, August 17, so I’m not sure we’ll plow through this in an hour, but we’ll do what we can.

Killer Websites for Middle School
*** Cancelled - will be rescheduled at a later time ***
We’ll take a look at a bunch of websites that address different curriculum needs. From the Library of Congress to Nettrekker to 3-D animated atoms, we’ll take a look around the Internet for content, search engines and libraries of resources that you can use for your class.
