Grade 4
Curriculum Overview
Science: Plant unit through mid-October. Physical Sciences, i.e. astronomy and electricity, begin mid-October through April. Sense organs and brain in May/June.
Social Studies: We begin with an overview of the United States in September, including biographies and symbols of America. Economics and Immigration are the topics from October to December. We begin an introduction to world history in January, then move on to NH Government in February and March. April's theme is Colonial Life, and Geography is studied in May/June.
Reading: Each class uses Reader's Workshop. Readers use their own selections, as well as the basal reader "Rare Finds", various novels, and biographies for whole class lessons and units.
Writing: We use the Writer's workshop, class assignments in all subjects, and special reports and projects to teach writing skills.
Math: Currently, we are using the EveryDay Math system for class.
Spelling: The most common words in the English language are used (commonly called, "core words"). Common word groups are also used ("igh" words, for example). We also add Challenge words as needed.
Homework: Students are to read for a minimum of 15 minutes each night. They are also to study math facts for 5 minutes (especially multiplication and division facts as the year goes on).

New Hampshire Skiing History websites
FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO DO "EARN YOUR TURNS" AND GET FREE PASSES:
These websites should contain a lot of information - more than you need! You may have to search around a bit on them, but these 3 are very good. MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING NEW HAMPSHIRE PLACES, AND NOT VERMONT OR ANYWHERE ELSE! Look for Cannon Mountain, Loon Mountain, Wildcat Mountain, etc. and check a map or a knowledgeable adult.
