WElcome to Kindergarten!

Our Kindergarten times are as follows:

Full Day Session

8:35 to 3:05

Our Kindergarten students have been working with some high frequency or sight words. Even though there are still a handful of letters and sounds to introduce, becoming familiar with some of the more common words used in reading texts is necessary as the children continue on their journeys to become readers. Since some words don't lend themselves to decoding, this skill of learning sight words is essential as the expectations for reading and writing continue to grow.

Math time is continuing to be filled with number sense and numeral recognition. The children have learned some new math games and had the opportunity to explore some tools such as the pan balance, number line, pattern blocks, attribute blocks, and dice. As the students become more familiar with the tools, they are learning new strategies to use in their math lessons.

Living in New Hampshire allows us to use the approaching winter season to continue to integrate science and social studies into the math and literacy lessons. We will be looking at hibernation and changes in matter, as well as holiday traditions.

A couple of dates to keep in mind:

December 7th - Early Release day for the children and parent conferences to discuss the progress each child is making this school year.

December 13th at 2:00 - Winter concert for Kindergarten in the Ellis School gym.  Remember to stop at the main office to get a visitor's pass.
