WElcome to Kindergarten!

Our Kindergarten times are as follows:

Full Day Session

8:35 to 3:05

March 18 , 2013

The Treasures Reading program has taken us through our tour of our neighborhoods and community.  We are now connecting the science topics of weather and seasons with Unit 7.  The children have been using nouns (naming words) and verbs (action words) to write complete sentences as they write in journals and complete a variety of writing activities connected with the reading lessons.

Our work with the EveryDay Math program has given us opportunities to practice addition and begin exploring subtraction.  Understanding the concepts and the symbols needed for both operations is an important component in our lessons each week.  We have spent a good deal of time exploring 2-D or flat shapes and will expland our math knowledge to include 3-D shapes as we move on with the curriculum. Place value is explained in a concrete way as we use manipulatives to create bundles of tens and hundreds from ones.

The Vocabulary Parade was fantastic.  The children were so proud of their costumes and were able to explain their vocabulary word to others. Thank you to the families for the hard work in helping the students be ready for the big day.

While the snow was here to enjoy for the winter months, we can truly say we are looking forward to the season of Spring. We will be exploring the concept of planting and seeds as we say good bye to Winter and welcome to Spring.

Thank you,

The Kindergarten Team
