Ellis Middle School Guidance Counselor
My name is Kate Segal, and I am the middle school counselor at Ellis School. This is my 22nd year working in a New Hampshire public school. I have a wonderful job at Ellis because I have the opportunity to listen to students, teachers and staff, as well as parents. We work together to solve problems in order to meet the academic needs of students. My goal is to help students become successful in school by being prepared, respectful, and responsible.
To provide a comprehensive guidance program for Ellis students, I teach, team teach, and coordinate the guidance curriculum. This year the "Be Cool" program for grades 5-8 will be taught in Health class. I will reinforce the same skills in small groups and individually. This series has been labled the #1 violence prevention series in America. Other classroom presentations include career education and refusal skills.
Throughout the year I also meet with groups of students and individual students in order to help them access their education. Some of the lessons/groups that I may plan for this year are Peer Mediation, Conflict Management, Coping with Attention Difficulties, Academic Coaching, Transitions, Friendship and Social Skills, and other topics depending on the needs of our students.
I also consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding the educational needs of students.
