Health Screenings Are Done Annually By The Nurse
This consist of Hearing,Vision,Height, and Weight Checks. A report will be sent home with results and an explanation letter.
If there are concerns the nurse will also call home to make parents aware. This also includes a BMI with an explanation of what this is. The Healthy People 2010 advocates for better health in schools regarding nutrition and exercise. This is due to the rise in diabetes seen in school age children who are overweight. The Federal Government has required any school receiving funds for nutrition/ free breakfast programs to develop a Wellness Policy in their school.
FIVE Fruits and Vegetables Daily
Limit Screen time to TWO hours daily
Participate in atleast ONE hour daily of vigourous exercise
Drink ZERO sugar drinks such as juice and soda
Parents Did You Know That:
Good Health Supports Optimal Learning
The American Academy of Pediatrics reccommends a well visit every two years after age six and every year after age thirteen.
Parents often ask why go to the doctor if they are not sick?
- This is important for health and safety teaching, keeping shots up to date, and monitoring growth and developmental stages.
- A regular check up is good preventative medicine.
- ALWAYS ASK FOR A HEALTH FORM/UPDATED SHOT RECORD AT ANNUAL CHECK UPS and give a copy to the nurse/ and save one in your child's health file
Dental Care Supports Best Learning
-
Lamprey Health Care's School Based Dental Program is offered annually with screenings, cleanings, and in class teaching. paper work comes home the first week of school/for further information go to Lamprey Health Care Web Site
Mass Head Checks for Lice are no longer done in school
It is always a good idea to check your child for headlice prior to the start of school in the fall. Summer Camp is often a source of headlice. To work with the Nurse in minimizing the pesky problem parents should check their child on a regular schedule such as every Monday. If a parent discovers lice they should call the nurse and any friends the child has been with regularly for events such as sleep overs. If a student has been treated they should go to the nurse with a parent to be checked prior to returning to class. The lice have a three week cycle and it is important to check twice a day for three weeks after treatment. Please refer to websites for further information. The following web sites have evidenced based research regarding the treatment of headlice:
