What are we studying this spring??

Kindergarten and First grade were introduced to Carnival of the Animals by

Camille Saint-Saëns.  We learned to respond to the music through movement.

Next we will be exploring folk dancing.

Second grade studied"The Sound of Music"  we read the story, learn to

sing the songs and watch the movie.  "The hills are alive with The Sound of Music!"

Now the second grade is beginning to learn the songs for the second grade musical,

a 1950's rock and roll version of Little Red Riding Hood.

Third and Fourth Grades are learning about sightsinging and note reading.  They sing

"Do Re Mi" and play a variation on music baseball where one person "pitches" a

pattern to another and the person needs to "hit the notes back to them.  After

vacation we will begin recorders using "The Recorder Fun Book"  and "Setting Sail".

Fifth graders are learning about music history, the Baroque Period, The Classical

Period, and the Romantic Period and about famous composers and famous music

pieces.  George Frideric Handel wrote Hallelujah Chorus, Johann Sebastian

Bach wrote Toccata and Fugue in D minor.

Sixth graders are learning to play guitar: learning to read notes, play simple tunes and

beginning to learn easy chords.

Seventh and Eighth Graders this trimester are learning to play guitar.
