School Counselor Role
Ellis School Counselors address three domains in each student’s development throughout the school year:

Ellis School Counselors provide:
Short term individual and group counseling
Crisis assessment and referral information
Curriculum-based classroom lessons
Consultation services for school personnel and parents
Conflict resolution
Assist in investigation and reporting of bullying
Transition assistance to middle and high school
504 coordination, grades K-8
Collaboration with special education providers
Attendance monitoring
School Counselor Mission Statement
The mission of Ellis School Counseling Department is to empower all students regardless of individual differences to acquire the educational, occupational and social competencies necessary to function and contribute in a changing society.
School Counselor Belief Statement
To implement the school counseling program at Ellis School, the counselors are committed to the following.
We believe that:
All students have dignity and worth.
All students have the right to be served by the school counseling program.
The school counseling program should be consistent with expected developmental stages of learning.
The school counseling programs shall be planned, managed and coordinated by the State-certified counseling staff.
The student and parent (s) are responsible for monitoring the student’s educational progress assisted by a professional school counselor.
An ongoing program of counselor training/retraining is necessary to maintain a quality school counseling program.
The professional mandates and guidelines proposed by the American School Counselor Association and State School Counselor association shall continue to set standards for the school counseling programs.
School Counselor Philosophy
The Ellis School District adheres to the philosophy that the school counseling program is an essential part of the overall education process. As advocates of our students, school counselors, along with administration, parents and the community of Fremont will support our students in individual growth and development as well as preparing them with life skills and career choices. To work as a counseling department to develop and implement appropriate programming school wide. We will continue to abide by the ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors and participate in professional development activities pertinent to school counseling. Professional School Counselors hold a Master’s degree and require New Hampshire State certification in school counseling.
